Condoleeza Rice, the Bush Administration's National
Security Advisor said:
I dont think anybody could have predicted that these people would
take an airplane and slam it into the World Trade Center, take another one and
slam it into the Pentagon; that they would try to use an airplane as a missile, a hijacked
airplane as a missile, she said. All of this reporting about hijacking was
about traditional hijacking.
These remarks, despite
at least 14 separate warnings to the United States Government, as reported by
the London Times, several of which came just weeks before the 911 Attacks on the World
Trade Center and the Pentagon. Many of them mentioned the possible, and at times,
the probable use of commercial aircraft to strike military, political and financial
targets.
The Sociology
and Psychology of Terrorism: Who Becomes Terrorists and Why? was written in 1999
to inform the U.S. Government of the reasons and methods of terrorism.
There was a great deal of
activity in Afghanistan by some everyday names in America
- Enron, General Electric, Unocal, the Taliban, the CIA - leading to the events of
911. It was, of course, about oil.
